Data Governance ensures good stewardship of Yale’s institutional data, coordinating organizational efforts to provide and use high-quality data in a consistent, meaningful, and secure manner. The Data Governance Executive Council (DGEC) supports decision makers through curated and expert-informed institutional administrative data.

  • Data Governance Executive Council is responsible for ensuring good stewardship of Yale’s institutional data. The DGEC coordinates the efforts required to deliver high-quality data that is provided and used in a consistent, meaningful and secure manner.
  • Data Stewards are functional leads within an operational area who have been deemed a data domain expert and have oversight for a subset of the University’s data. Data source system stewards will provide expert guidance and design of appropriate use and access.
  • Data Dictionary – standard field attributes to be shared between IT and customers.
  • Glossary - additional business-confirmed definitions, data classification, source system.
  • Data Classification – Yale has created a Data Classification Policy that divides Yale data into three types, depending on their importance, sensitivity, and potential for misuse.
